Red Lion's Sophie Lanius, seen here in a file photo, has reached the Class 3-A semifinals of the York-Adams League Girls' Tennis Singles Championships.

According to the seeds, there was only one surprise among the players reaching the semifinal round of the York-Adams League Girls’ Tennis Singles Championships.

First- and second-round action was held Thursday at South Western (Class 3-A) and Red Lion (2-A).

No. 6 seed Sophie Lanius of Red Lion made the 3-A semifinals by earning a 7-5, 6-4 quarterfinal victory over No. 4 seed Grace Heird of Dallastown.

In Friday’s 3-A semifinals, Lanius will face No. 1 seed Rachel Haupt of Central York. The other 3-A semifinal will pit No. 3 seed Sarah McComas of South Western vs. No. 2 seed Lexi Lakatosh of Red Lion.

Lakatosh did not lose a game in either of her matches on Thursday, while Haupt lost just one game.

In 2-A, the top four seeds moved to the semifinals, led by No. 1 seed Evelyn Whiteside, who is the defending champion. Whiteside, who did not lose a game on Thursday in two matches, will face No. 3 seed Alisa Steele of West York in the semifinals. That is a rematch of last year’s 2-A final, won by Whiteside.

The other 2-A final will match No. 2 seed Brianna Serruto of Kennard-Dale against No. 4 seed Carina Roberts of York Catholic.

The semifinals in both classes start at 2 p.m. Friday at New Oxford, followed by the finals.
