Prep roundup, Monday, Sept. 24: Northeastern earns 1-0 boys' soccer win vs. Central York

Northeastern's Noah Hartzfeld scored the game's only goal on a free kick to give the Bobcats a 1-0 triumph at Central York on Monday night in boys' soccer action.

The Bobcats improved to 5-4-1 overall and 3-3-0 in York-Adams Division I. The Panthers, the five-time defending D-I champions, fell to 4-5-2 overall and 3-2-1 in the division.

Northeastern is trying for its first winning record in D-I action since moving up from D-II in 2014.

Central had a 4-3 edge in shots on goal and a 3-0 edge in corners.



Dallastown 0, Mechanicsburg 0: At Mechanicsburg, Dallastown settled for a nonleague scoreless draw and is now 6-3-1 overall.

South Western 2, Waynesboro 0: At Waynesboro, the Mustangs improved to 5-2-1 overall with the nonleague triumph. Sean Quinn and Cole Hartlaub scored goals, while Casey Slater had two assists.

York High 3, Harrisburg 3: At York, the Bearcats stand at 3-4-1 after the nonleague draw.

Bermudian Springs 3, Big Spring 1: At Big Spring, Bryan Garcia had a goal and an assist to lead Bermudian (6-2 overall).


Red Lion 3, South Western 0: At Red Lion, the home team improved to 6-3 overall with its fifth straight victory. The Lions have outscored the opposition 20-2 during the winning streak. Red Lion is 5-1 in York-Adams Division I. Gabby Young had a goal and an assist. Lexis Kline and Delaney Bittner also had goals, while Anna Gatchell added an assist.

Fairfield 7, Littlestown 1: At Fairfield, in a battle of 8-0 teams, the Green Knights rolled in a game that was halted at halftime because of field conditions. Both teams entered at 6-0 in York-Adams Division III.

Dallastown 1, Hershey 1: At Hershey, the Trojans and Wildcats battled to a nonleague draw. Dallastown is now 7-3-1 overall.

Red Land 4, Dover 1: At Dover, the Eagles dropped to 4-4-0 overall with the nonleague loss.


Red Lion 2, South Western 1: At Hanover, the Lions improved to 6-4 overall and 5-2 in York-Adams Division I. South Western fell to 6-3 overall and 4-2 in D-II. Kennedy Bratton and Sarah Gillmen scored for Red Lion, with Kaiya Edwards and Jillian Sleeth providing assists. Kat Study scored South Western's goal. Red Lion's Allie Anderson made 11 saves to get the win in goal. South Western won the JV match, 2-1.

Susquehanock 2, Kennard-Dale 0: At Glen Rock, the Warriors received one goal apiece from Lauryn Wojcik and Abby Grim to secure the home victory. Addison Roeder added one assist, while Meghan Adams and Sophie Leslie combined for five saves to record the shutout. The Warriors improved to 6-4 overall. Susquehannock won the JV match, 4-1.

Bermudian Springs 1, Eastern York 0: At York Springs, Hailey Lamo found the back of the net at the 20:25 mark of the second half to break the scoreless draw and secure the home victory. Teammate Skyler West had an assist. For the Golden Knights, Kaisey Felix made eight saves in goal. First-place Bermudian (9-0 overall) improved to 6-0 in York-Adams Division III. Second-place Eastern fell to 5-2 overall and 4-2 in the division. The JV ended in 0-0 draw.

York Suburban 6, Delone Catholic 0: At Suburban, Carder Miller led the Trojans to the home victory by scoring two goals and adding one assist. Macie Brown, Emily Myers, Serena Andricos and Sophie Bach each scored one goal. The Trojans defense held the Squirettes to one shot on goal. 

Littlestown 2, Northeastern 0: At Manchester, Catherine Scarborough scored a goal in each half to lead Littlestown (8-2 overall).

McCaskey 2, York Tech 0: At York, the Spartans got shut out by McCaskey for the second time in three days.

Gettysburg 3, Fairfield 0: At Fairfield, the Warriors improved to 5-4-0 overall with the triumph.

Biglerville 1, Waynesboro 1: At Waynesboro, the Canners settled for the nonleague deadlock.


Eastern York 3, Dover 2: At Wrightsville, the Golden Knights won, 25-19, 15-25, 25-21, 15-25, 15-12. Sarah Moore led the Knights with 19 kills and nine digs. Also for Eastern, Abby Smith had 16 kills, Olivia Koicuba had 16 digs and four aces, Kate Lehman had 32 assists and seven digs and Morgan Dobbeck had 12 digs and three kills. For the Eagles, Chayce Hoffman had 19 kills and 24 digs, while Emma Davis had 27 kills and eight digs and Abby Diehl had eight kills, 10 digs, 46 assists and three aces. Eastern won the JV match, 2-1.

Gettysburg 3, Spring Grove 2: At Spring Grove, the Warriors won the match, 20-25, 25-12, 18-25, 25-16, 15-9. Tess Lampe led the visitors with 10 kills and 18 digs. Also for Gettysburg, Lexy Lutz had 18 digs, six kills and four aces. For the Rockets, Kaylyn Zeigler had 11 digs, nine kills, 15 assists and three blocks, while Falyn McGlynn had 15 kills, nine digs and three aces and Maddie Ruhland had 14 assists, three kills, three digs and three aces. Spring Grove won the JV match, 2-1. 

Delone Catholic 3, Susquehannock 1: At Glen Rock, the Squirettes won, 25-8, 9-25, 25-22, 25-19. Maddie Clabaugh led the visitors with 10 kills and 16 digs. Also for Delone, Molly Raville had seven kills, seven assists and 10 digs. For the Warriors, Savannah Lesley had 21 digs and seven kills, while Emma Sieling had 17 digs and five kills and Alex Somerville had 11 assists and nine digs. Delone won the JV match, 2-0.

York High 3, McCaskey 1: At York, the Bearcats won the nonleague match, 25-15, 22-25, 25-14, 25-23, for their second victory of the season. York lost the JV match in three games.

Covenant Christian 3, Hanover 1: At Hanover, the Nighthawks dropped the nonleague contest.

South Western 3, Waynesboro 2: At Waynesboro, the Mustangs earned the nonleague win, 20-25, 25-21, 25-16, 19-25, 15-9. South Western also won the JV match, 17-25, 25-20, 15-10.

Greencastle-Antrim 3, Bermudian Springs 0: At Greencastle, the Eagles fell 25-18, 25-11, 25-15.

Covenant Christian 3, Hanover 1: At Hanover, the Nighthawks dropped the nonleague contest.


York Suburban 4, York Catholic 1: At Wisehaven Tennis Center, the Trojans received straight-set singles victories from Alex Clancy, Liv Pindzola and Zoe Prats. In doubles, Ini Ekaha and Alivia Halza combined to win the No. 1 match. For the Irish, Abby Wurzbach and Maggie Bowser combined to win the No. 2 doubles match. 

Northeastern 5, Kennard-Dale 0: At Manchester, the Bobcats received straight set singles victories from Courtnee Hoff, Jillian Laughman and Brynn MacDonald. Madison Laughman and Jiselle Castano won the No. 1 doubles match, while Aubrey Shaffer and Taylor Forry won the No. 2 doubles match. The Bobcats improved to 9-3 overall.
