Prep roundup, Thursday, Sept. 20: Susquehannock, Spring Grove runners set course records
A pair of course records were broken when Red Lion played host to a York-Adams League cross country meet at its Copper Beech course.
Susquehannock's Sam Pugliese finished in 18 minutes, 2 seconds, to shatter the previous boys' record of 18:33 set by Adler Brininger of Delone Catholic in 2017.
Red Lion's Kiersten Lloyd won the girls' race in 19:56, blowing away the previous record of 20:36 set in 2017 by Delone's Leann Sneeringer.
Pugliese led the Susquehannock boys to a 3-0 mark on the day. The Warriors were followed by Spring Grove at 2-1, Red Lion at 1-2 and South Western at 0-3.
Lloyd paced the Red Lion girls to a 3-0 day, followed by Susquehannock (2-1), South Western (1-2) and Spring Grove (0-3).
Spring Grove's Jonathan Wyrick took second in the boys' race, while Red Lion's Mason Meads was third, followed by Spring Grove's Liam Myers and Susquehannock's Mateo Vega.
In the girls' race, Lily Hare, Mera D'Aquilla, Gwendolyn Lloyd and Allison Keller helped Red Lion take the top five spots.
Central York finishes perfect Division I season: The Central York Panthers finished off a perfect York-Adams Division I golf season with a first-place finish at Hanover Country Club on Thursday.
The Panthers finished the season at 42-0, good for 126 points. Spring Grove took second at 31-11 (93 points), while Dallastown was third at 29-13 (87 points).
Central finished with a 322 total on Thursday, followed by Spring Grove (334), Dallastown (337), New Oxford (349), Northeastern (375), South Western (407) and Red Lion (414).
Central's Carson Bacha earned individual medalist honors with a 3-over-par 74. The only other golfers to break 80 were Spring Grove's Karl Frisk (78) and Central's Alex Gekas (79).
Susquehannock captures Division II title: At Honey Run, Susquehannock (351) captured the York-Adams Division II title with a third-place finish in the final division match of the season.
Andrew Roberts (76) took second individually and led Susquehannock.
Bermudian (340) took first in the team match.
York Suburban (346) took second, led by Matthew Weaver (77). The Rams (352) took fourth behind Alexandra Smith (78).
West York (361) took fifth, followed by Eastern York (370), which got a 77 from Nate Hoyer (77).
Devin Peart (75) took first as an independent to lead Littlestown.
York Catholic takes Division III title: At Bridgewater Golf Club on Wednesday, York Catholic finished first in the final York-Adams Division III golf match of the season to sew up the division crown.
The Fighting Irish finished with a 325 total, which was 26 shots better than second-place Delone. Bermudian Springs was third at 362, followed by Fairfield (364), York Tech (384) and Hanover (414).
York Catholic finished with a 29-1 D-III record, good for 87 points. Delone was second at 25-5 (75 points).
York Catholic's Russ McPaul was the individual medalist at 74, followed by York Tech's Alex May at 76. Nolan Wisniewski of the Fighting Irish was the only other golf to break 80 with a 78.
Central York 3, Dover 1: At Central, the Panthers won a battle of York-Adams Division I unbeatens, 18-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-22. Central is 6-0 overall and 5-0 in the division. Dover is 5-2 and 4-1. Central's stat leaders were Alexa Shorts (12 kills, 17 digs), Sydnie Johnson (11 kills) and Linnea Prudell (40 assists, five aces). Leading Dover were Emma Davis (17 kills, 13 digs), Chayce Hoffman (14 kills, 10 digs) and Abby Diehl (13 digs, 33 assists, six blocks). Central won the JV match, 2-0.
South Western 3, Spring Grove 1: At Spring Grove, the Rockets fell 25-17, 22-25, 25-14, 25-14. South Western was led by Madisyn McMaster (six kills, 19 digs, 10 assists), Megan Wolf (12 kills, 19 digs), Jacy Crouse (eight digs, 30 assists) and Ali St. Rose (20 kills, 15 digs, nine aces). Spring Grove's leaders were Maddie Ruhland (11 digs, 20 assists) and Kaylyn Zeigler (nine kills, 16 assists). Spring Grove won the JV match, 2-1.
York Catholic 3, York Tech 0: At Spry, the Irish won, 25-6, 25-11, 25-13. Payton Murphy led the Irish with three kills and four digs. Also for the Irish, Giulianna Santamaria had five digs and four aces, Hope Leavy-Gaskins had five kills and Megan Daugherty had 12 assists and four digs.
Susquehannock 3, New Oxford 0: At New Oxford, the Warriors won, 25-15, 25-10, 25-12. Emma Sieling led the visitors with 10 kills. Also for the Warriors, Emily Sweitzer had seven assists, three digs and three blocks, Nikki Gianzanti had seven digs and three aces, while Savannah Lesley had three digs and three kills. For the Colonials, Ally Culp had six kills, while Torrin Kelley had 19 assists and three digs. Susquehannock won the JV match, 15-25, 25-16, 16-14.
Red Lion 3, Northeastern 1: At Manchester, the Lions triumphed, 26-24, 23-25, 26-24, 25-18. Leading the Lions were Cassidy Crowe (16 digs), Julia Beiler (eight kills, 10 digs), Katie Thompson (nine kills, 15 digs), Lauren Dontell (16 digs) and Maddie Grim (16 digs, 21 assists). Northeastern's leaders were Natalie Martin (12 kills, 13 blocks), Lauren Kelly (nine kills, 10 digs), Carly Olmo, (18 digs) and Jade Shellenberger (12 digs, 30 assists). Northeastern won the JV match, 2-1.
Dallastown 5, Spring Grove 0: At Dallastown, the Wildcats received straight-set singles victories from Meghan Salaga, Morgan Kistler and Taylor Jones. In doubles, Jordan Striebig and Lana Dumnich combined to win the No. 1 match, while Maya Eiben and Julia Hagen combined to win the No. 2 match.
West York 4, Hanover 1: At West York, Audrey Kinney and Alisa Steele won in singles for the Bulldogs. West York swept the doubles behind Brenya Stallsmith/Megan Hartlaub and Sadie Mikula/Sarah DePasquale.
York Country Day 4, Bermudian Springs 1: At York Springs, the Greyhounds captured all three singles matches in straight sets with behind Kaylee Mustard, Lisa Fan and Olivia Sharp. YCD's Daryanna Moore and Jane Kim won at No. 2 doubles.
Northeastern 3, Central York 2: At Manchester, the Bobcats received singles victories from Jillian Laughman and Brynn MacDonald. In doubles, Madison Laughman and Jiselle Castano combined to win the No. 1 doubles match. For the Panthers, Aubrey Stewart won the No. 1 singles match, while Catherine Bennett and Maria Houseman won the No. 2 doubles match.
York Suburban 4, Kennard-Dale 1: At Fawn Grove, the Trojans captured all three singles matches in straight sets with behind Alex Clancy, Liv Pindzola and Zoe Prats. In doubles, Ini Ekaha and Janelle Rice combined to win the No. 2 match. For the Rams, Shannon Fletcher and Tori Santoriello combined to win the No. 2 doubles match.
York Suburban 6, York Tech 0: At Suburban, Caitlyne Mackin (two goals), Carder Miller (two goals), Emily Myers (three assists), Jordan Merriam (goal) and Carly Bowen (goal) led the Trojans. Suburban won the JV match, 3-0.
South Western 8, Dover 0: At Hanover, Kat Study powered the Mustangs to the victory by recording a first-half hat trick. South Western won the JV match, 1-0.
Gettysburg 3, Kennard-Dale 1: At Gettysburg, Anna Coale led the Warriors by scoring two goals. For the Rams, Jenna Soukaseum scored the lone goal. The JV match ended in a 0-0 draw.
