Cold front will bring strong winds to York County

PREP ROUNDUP FOR WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 12: York Catholic captures 3-2 victory in girls' tennis


York Catholic overcame a pair of three-set losses to capture a 3-2 girls' tennis victory over Gettysburg on Wednesday afternoon at Springettsbury Park.

The Irish lost three-setters at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, but won the No. 3 singles match behind Becca Marinelli.

Abby Wurzbach and Abby Brenneman won at No. 1 doubles for the Irish, while Maggie Bowser and Lori Schlosser triumphed at No. 2 doubles.

All of York Catholic's three wins came in straight sets.

The Irish improved to 4-2 overall and 4-1 in York-Adams Division II. The win kept York Catholic just a game behind first-place Delone Catholic in the D-II standings.

Gettysburg fell to 3-5 overall and 3-3 in the division.


Dallastown 5, Dover 0: At Dover, the Wildcats received singles victories from Meghan Salaga, Morgan Kistler, and Taylor Jones. In doubles, Grace Heird and Jordan Striebig won the No. 1 match, while Bria Beverly and Emily Sarro won the No. 2 match.

Central York 5, Red Lion 0: At Central York, the Panthers received singles victories from Audrey Stewart, Carolyn Snell and Prital Prabhu. In doubles, Daniella Feistritzer and Katie Kruza captured the No. 1 match, while Catherine Bennett and Maria Houseman won the No. 2 match.

West York 4, Littlestown 1: At West York, the Bulldogs triumphed behind singles wins from Audrey Kinney and Alisa Steele and doubles victories behind Brenya Stallsmith/Megan Hartlaub and Sadie Mikula/Sarah Depasquale.

South Western 3, Susquehannock 2: At Glen Rock, the Mustangs captured all three singles matches to secure the victory. For the Warriors, Mia Kobylski and Abby Martin won the No. 1 doubles match, while teammates Julia Kelbaugh and Megan Cramer won the No. 2 doubles match.

Northeastern 5, York Suburban 0: At Suburban, the Bobcats received singles victories from Courtnee Hoff, Jillian Laughman and Brynn MacDonald. In doubles, Madison Laughman and Jiselle Castano won the No. 1 doubles match, while Taylor Forry and Aubrey Shaffer won the No. 2 match.

New Oxford 5, Spring Grove 0: At New Oxford, the first-place Colonials improved to 4-0 in York-Adams Division I by blanking the Rockets.

Delone Catholic 5, Kennard-Dale 0: At McSherrystown, the first-place Squirettes improved to 5-0 in York-Adams Division II action by sweeping the Rams.


Central wins again: The Central York Panthers remained unbeaten in York-Adams Division I golf action on Wednesday at Heritage Hills Golf Resort.

The Panthers finished with a 305 total to finish 23 shots ahead of second-place Dallastown. Spring Grove was third at 330, followed by New Oxford (350), Northeastern (398) South Western (413) and Red Lion (416).

Central improved to 30-0 in the division, good for 90 points. Spring Grove and Dallastown are tied for second at 21-9, good for 63 points.

Central's Carson Bacha was medalist with a 71, while his teammate, Jun Lee, was next at 72. Spring Grove's Karl Frisk shot 74, while his teammate, Brandon Simmons, fired a 76. Red Lion's Channing Bratton (77), Central's Alex Gekas (79) and Dallastown's Michael DeRose (79) also broke 80.


Red Lion 8, Spring Grove 1: At Spring Grove, Kennedy Braxton led the Lions to the road victory by scoring four first-half goals. Also for the Lions, Jillian Sleeth scored two goals, while Sarah Gillman and Megan McCartney each scored one goal. For the Rockets, Mackenzie Topper scored the lone goal. The Lions defense held the Rockets to five shots on goal. The JV match ended in a 0-0 tie.

Susquehannock 4, York Suburban 0: At Suburban, Lauren Wojicik led the Warriors to the victory by scoring two goals and adding one assist. Also for Susquehannock, Abby Grim scored two goals, while Grace Barnhart added one assist. The Warriors held a 17-1 shots advantage on goal for the game.  

Eastern York 5, West York 1: At Wrightsville, Addison Malone scored three goals and added one assist to lead the Golden Knights to the home victory. Also for Eastern, Morgan Arnold and Hannah Lentz each scored one goal, while Lily Campbell added two assists and Cassidy Arnold picked up one assist. For the Bulldogs, Nicole Connely scored one goal. Eastern York won the JV match 2-0.

Central York 8, Northeastern 0: At Manchester, the Panthers rolled behind Abby Lamison (goal, three assists), Breann Craley (two goals), Kaitlyn Merritt (goal, assist), Kyra Heap (goal, assist) and Caroline Blalock (two goals). Central improved to 5-0 overall.

New Oxford 4, Dover 0: At Dover, Carrie Bair led the Colonials to the victory with two first-half goals. The Colonials' defense held the Eagles to three shots on goal. The JV match ended in a 1-1 tie. 


Susquehannock 5, Biglerville 0: At Glen Rock, Nolan Holloway led the Warriors to the victory by scoring one goal and picking up two assists. David Muriel-Diaz scored two goals, while Fallou Cisse and Nathan Weldon each scored one goal, while Jon Lippy and Nick Holloway each added one assist. Warriors goalies Griffin Kaifer and Nick Koval combined for a shutout with six total saves. The JV match ended in a 1-1 draw.   

West York 4, Gettysburg 2: At Gettysburg, the Bulldogs improved to 5-1 overall with the York-Adams Division II triumph.


Gettysburg 7, West York 1: At West York, Maddy Gaydon led the Warriors to the road victory by scoring four goals. For the Bulldogs, Brionna Smith scored the lone goal, while teammate Gabby Smith picked up the assist.
