Because of rainy forecast, District 3 games set for Thursday will now be played Wednesday
Because of a rainy forecast from Thursday through Saturday, officials from District 3 have elected to significantly alter its schedule for the baseball and softball playoffs.
All games originally scheduled for Thursday have now been moved up to Wednesday. That includes District 3 championship games and state qualifying games in Class 6-A, 5-A and 4-A for baseball and softball. Games in Class 3-A, 2-A and 1-A are not impacted because the playoffs for those classes end on Tuesday.
The district moved up the games not only because of the wet forecast for later in the week, but also because a number of schools involved have graduations, proms or SAT testing on Friday or Saturday, making rescheduling games difficult. Plus, if there is a significant rain, fields may be unplayable, even if it does stop raining later on.
District games must be played by Saturday. If games are not played by Saturday, the district would have to use power ratings to seed teams for the state tournament. That is something the district does not want to do unless absolutely necessary.
The district said the game times and sites for Wednesday's games will be released as soon as possible after the conclusion of Tuesday's contests.
