The Christian School of York girls' basketball team has advanced to the Commonwealth Christian Athletic Conference semifinals.

The Crusaders punched their ticket to the semifinals with a 44-21 triumph over visiting Conestoga Christian.

CSY improved to 19-4, while Conestoga Christian fell to 10-10.

Kendis Butler powered the Crusaders' offense with a career-high 27 points, including five 3-pointers. Hannah Martin added seven points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and two steals.

CSY will next play Veritas Academy in a semifinal showdown at 6 p.m. Thursday at High Point Baptist Academy. The winner will advance to the CCAC title game at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Lancaster Bible College. 

CSY and Veritas Academy will also square off in a District 3 Class 1-A quarterfinal at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, at CSY. The Crusaders are seeded No. 4, while Veritas (15-3) is seeded No. 5.

Zangari out as Red Land boys' basketball coach: Two years in, Red Land’s Mike Zangari is out as the boys basketball coach.

Zangari, a Red Land and East Carolina University grad, stepped down shortly after the Patriots concluded a 2-19 season.

Athletic director B.J. Cashman confirmed the news to The (Carlisle) Sentinel late Monday night. Cashman could not comment further until after the West Shore School Board accepts Zangari’s resignation at its next meeting Thursday.

Zangari was hired at 23 years old to replace Jeff Sparrow, becoming the youngest head coach in the Mid-Penn Conference at the time. The former two-time all-state selection had 1,697 career points in his varsity playing days and took over a squad that went 9-13.

He played at ECU under former Carlisle great Jeff Lebo.

The Patriots went 2-19 this season, with both wins coming against Palmyra. Overall, Zangari’s teams went 6-36 in two seasons.

Red Lion Christian boys win: At Bible Baptist, Myles Willard led Red Lion Christian to a 65-54 victory over Bible Baptist in boys' basketballl action.

Willard had 24 points and 14 rebounds. Also for RLC, Brad Sweitzer and Dondre Damiano each scored 11 points, while Robert Englestad had 12 rebounds.

RLC now advances to the Pennsylvania Christian Athletic Conference semifinals on Friday at Heritage Christian against Lebanon Christian at 4:45 p.m.

The RLC girls already advanced to the semifinals and will play on Friday at Heritage Christian at 3:30 p.m. against a foe to be determined. 

West York beats York Tech in wrestling: At Spry, West York earned a 51-21 wrestling victory over York Tech.

The Bulldogs received pins from Nathan Townsley (120), Terraj DeShields (132), Jordan Billet (145), Nick Spadafora (182) and Frank Veloce (285). For the Spartans, Cameron Bly (106), Jacques Elissaint (160) and Jacob Sharp (220) got pins.

The Spartans also defeated Columbia 66-6 on Tuesday to pick up a non-league victory. All of the matches were forfeits. The Crimson Tide had only one wrestler, and he got a forfeit from Tech. All 11 of Tech's wins also came by forfeits.
