PREP: Spring Grove's Kessinger hurls softball shutout
Hailey Kessinger threw a one-hit shutout to help Spring Grove beat Northeastern on Thursday, 8-0, and move into sole possession of first place in York-Adams League Division I softball.
Kessinger struck out five and walked two.
The Rockets improved to 9-2 overall and 8-1 in the division, a half game ahead of Central York, which was idle on Thursday.
Hannah Gartrell (three hits, double, three RBIs, run), Hannah Shaffer (two doubles, RBI), Julia Wivell (two hits, double, RBI, run), Bryn Sporer (three runs), Caraline Cornman (double, two RBIs) and Bailey Rapson (two hits, RBI) led the Rockets' 11-hit attack.
Northeastern 3, New Oxford 0: At Manchester, the Bobcats won, 25-20, 25-9, 25-17. Cole Brillhart led the Bobcats with 12 kills. Also for the Bobcats, Jacob Cheuvront had 33 assists and three blocks, Wyatt Hughes had seven kills and Dakoda Hoffman had five kills. Northeastern improved to 5-0 in the York-Adams League.
Central York 3, West York 0: At West York, Cole Johnson had 11 aces to go along with nine kills and seven digs as the Panthers swept the Bulldogs, 25-17, 25-12, 25-9. Teammate Carter Luckenbaugh dished out 29 assists while also posting a pair of kills and a pair of aces. Central improved to 5-0 in the York-Adams League. Jacob May recorded eight digs, seven assists, two kills and an ace for West York. The Bulldogs’ Sam Lovelace had four kills and four digs.
York Suburban 3, Spring Grove 0: At Spring Grove, the visitors triumphed, 25-19, 25-18, 25-22. Jack Schultz (13 kills, six digs), Nick Bowman (17 digs) and Zach Weinstein (five kills, seven digs, 15 assists) led Suburban. Spring Grove's leaders were Luke Hoffnagle (21 assists) and Mason Staub (10 kills). Suburban won the JV match, 2-1.
Dallastown 3, Dover 0: At Dallastown, the Wildcats won, 25-21, 25-16, 25-18. Nathan Darr led the Wildcats with five kills, 11 digs and four blocks. Also for Dallastown, Drew Scott had eight kills and four blocks, Peyton Ranck had 37 assists and four aces and Jake Bixler had nine kills and four blocks. For the Eagles, Hunter Shank had nine kills, while Zach Noll had 20 assists and three digs and Devin Crone had four kills and five digs. Dover won the JV match, 2-1.
Red Lion 3, Kennard-Dale 0: At Red Lion, the Lions won, 25-23, 25-14, 25-15. Tristan Fuentes led the Lions with seven kills and four digs. Also for the Lions, Brock Gould had four kills and five blocks, John Janiwiac had three kills and 10 blocks and Chris Muller had three digs, 23 assists and three aces. For the Rams, Adam Coomes had eight kills and seven digs, while John Enders had nine digs and nine assists and Wesley Forrester had nine digs and three blocks. K-D won the JV match, 2-1.
Spring Grove 8, Northeastern 3: At Spring Grove, Cameron Sterner led the Rockets by going 2 for 3 with two RBIs and one run scored. Also for Spring Grove, Conner Reed went 2 for 3 with two runs scored and one RBI, Logan Miller went 1 for 2 with two runs scored and Jonathan Sager started the game on the mound, throwing five innings, while allowing one earned run, striking out five and walking six. For the Bobcats, Robbie Clipp doubled.
Pequea Valley 9, Kennard-Dale 0: At Fawn Grove, the Rams managed just three hits in the non-league battle to fall 8-3 overall. Ryan Dandy pitched 2 2/3 innings of shutout relief for K-D.
Red Lion 5, Spring Grove 0: At Red Lion, the Lions received singles victories from Alec Shue, Riley Krout and Cameron Wheeler. Luc Nadeau and Alex Schor combined to win the No. 1 doubles match, while Kyle Palmieri and Luke Zeidman combined to win the No. 2 match.
Northeastern 5, Delone Catholic 0: At Hanover, Erich Nagel, Josh Schroder and Alec Schroder each rolled to straight-sets singles wins for the Bobcats. The teams of Lance Fries/Collin Wunsch and Brian Hollingsworth/Haydne Golden won in doubles.
