The top two softball teams in York-Adams League Division II suffered upset losses on Monday.
The Northeastern Bobcats picked up their first victory of the season on Monday by knocking off visiting Susquehannock, 7-1. The Warriors entered the game with most wins in York-Adams Division II. Northeastern improved to 1-5 overall and 1-4 in D-II. Susquehannock fell to 4-3 and 3-3. Belle Bortner pitched a complete-game seven-hitter to get the win, striking out five and walking two. Haley Updegraff led the Bobcats' offense, going 3 for 4 with three RBIs and three runs scored. She had a bases-clearing triple in the fifth. Krista Anderson also had three Northeastern hits.
Visiting Dover, meanwhile, outlasted West York for wild 10-9 win. There were eight runs scored in the final inning, including six from Dover. The Bulldogs were hurt by six errors, leading to five unearned runs. Abbey Lower had three hits to lead Dover, while Jessica Parr tripled and drove in four runs. Cassandra Root also tripled for the winners. Breanna Harvey (two hits, three RBIs, run), Paige Weekly (three walks, homer, two runs, two RBIs) Leah Jameson (two hits, two RBIs, two runs), Emily Dellinger (two hits, two runs) and Gabrielle Illyes (two hits) paced West York, which fell to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the division. Dover is 2-4 and 2-3.
Dallastown 5, Red Lion 4: At Red Lion, the Wildcats connected for three runs in the top of the fourth to take a 5-3 lead and held on for the victory. Kelsie Merriman led the Wildcats by throwing a complete game, striking out seven and walking two. For the Lions, Taylor Radziewicz tripled, while Megan Teal and Hailey Inguanti each doubled.
Spring Grove 1, New Oxford 0: At Spring Grove, the lone run came in the opening inning. Both teams had just three hits, with Alanna Molz pitching a complete game for New Oxford, while Julia Wivell and Hailey Kessinger combined for the shutout for the Rockets, who improved to 6-1 overall and 5-0 in York-Adams Division I.
Central York 11, South Western 1 (5 Innings): At Central York, Briannah Dobson led the Panthers by going 2 for 4 with three RBIs. Also for Central, Courtney Coppersmith went 2 for 3 with two runs scored, Briana Smith went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and one run, Taylor Sanders went 2 for 2 with one run, Erin Cabry went 2 for 4 with two runs and Lorna Colberg and Natalie Craig each went 1 for 1 with two RBIs. Colberg also added one run scored.
York Suburban 6, Bermudian Springs 1: At York Springs, the Trojans had just two hits, but took advantage of five Bermudian errors. Suburban, meanwhile, played errorless ball. Sarah Hartinger got the complete-game win, allowing three hits, while striking out five and walking five. Zoe Prats tripled for the winners, while Ella Eberhardinger doubled.
Biglerville 19, York Tech 13: In a game that featured 32 runs, 36 hits and 11 errors, the Canners outlasted the Spartans. Both pitchers went the distance.
Susquehannock 4, Bermudian Springs 1: At Glen Rock, the Warriors dropped the top singles match before rattling off victories in all remaining matches. Dominic Snyder kicked off that run with a 6-3, 6-0 win against Isaac Avery.
Dallastown 5, New Oxford 0: At Dallastown, the Wildcats received singles victories from Hunter Jones, Jonathan Burns and David Trimmer. In doubles, Sebastian May and Nick Istvanic combined to win the No. 1 match, while Tyler Lilie and Logan Maddox won the No. 2 match.
South Western 3, Red Lion 2: At Red Lion, a pair of doubles victories helped pushed the Mustangs past the Lions. Ricky Dolan teamed with Dom Spampinato for one doubles win, and the duo of John Hanson and Logan Kemp picked up the other. Riley Krout and Cameron Wheeler won in singles for the hosts.
York Catholic 3, York Suburban 2: At Springettsbury, Nick Bartkowiak and Hui Wang each won singles points for York Catholic, while the team of Joey Schwamb and Seung Ho Jung won at No. 2 doubles. Suburban a singles point from Dan Lee and a doubles point from Tom Platts/Shobhit Khurana.
Northeastern 5, Dover 0: At Dover, the Bobcats received singles victories from Erich Nagel, Josh Sanderson and Alec Schroter. In doubles, Lance Fries and Colin Wunsch combined to win the No. 1 match.
Elizabethtown 3, West York 2: At Elizabethtown, the Bulldogs received singles victories from Augustine Citrone and Tim Pickard in the the non-league loss.
York Tech 110, Biglerville 40: At Spry, the Spartans captured first in 10 of the 11 track events. Individually for the Spartans, Evan Schlosser won the 1,600 and 3,200, and Kole Shenberger won the 110 and 300 hurdles.
Biglerville 79, York Tech 67: At Spry, McCayla Welsh led the Spartans by capturing the long jump, 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles. Teammate Katie MacDougall won the 1,600 and 3,200.
