Central York, Dallastown fall in District 3-AAA girls' tennis quarterfinals
The York-Adams League girls' tennis team season has come to a close.
Both Central York and Dallastown fell in the District 3-AAA quarterfinals on Tuesday at Hershey Racquet Club.
The No. 6 seeded Panthers nearly upset No. 3 seed Cumberland Valley before falling, 3-2.
The No. 2 seeded Wildcats fell to No. 10 seed Hempfield, 3-0.
In the Central match, Yvonne Peters-Washington rolled at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-3, while Maddison Mummert triumphed at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-0. Central nearly got the third point it needed for the team win, but the Panthers' No. 1 doubles team of Sarah Donner and Sophie Brink suffered a 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (5) setback.
Peters-Washington was coming off a second-place finish in the District 3-AAA singles competition on Monday. She was forced to retire in the title match on Monday because of illness, but she rebounded to win on Tuesday.
Doubles: The District 3 doubles tournament is slated to start Friday at HRC.
The only York-Adams team to earn a seeding was the Delone Catholic combination of Alyssa Neudecker and Ellie Neudecker, which is seeded No. 4 in Class AA. The Neudecker sisters won the York-Adams AA crown.
Also competing in AA are: York Suburban's Samantha Clancy and Bailey Cross, York Catholic's Carolyn Thomas and Samantha Schwamb and Kennard-Dale's Alyssa Miller and Clare Boone. Competing in AAA are: Dallastown's Christie Friedrich and Angela Friedrich, Central York's Maddison Mummert and Jenn Elder and New Oxford's Dagney Markle and Brook Moyer.
