Central York rolls into District 3-AAA girls' tennis quarterfinals

Central York cruised into the District 3-AAA girls' tennis quarterfinals on Thursday with a 5-0 triumph over Gov. Mifflin at the Hershey Racquet Club.

Gov. Mifflin (9-3) came into the match seeded No. 11, while the Panthers (11-2) were seeded No. 6.

Yvonne Peters-Washington (6-0, 6-1) and Maddison Mummert (6-1, 6-0) cruised to victories in No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Jenn Elder had to work a little harder to earn a 6-3, 2-6, 10-4 victory at No. 3 singles.

Sarah Conner and Sophie Brink rallied to win at No. 1 doubles, 3-6, 6-3, 10-8, while Kara Holland and Lily Richwine triumphed at No. 2 doubles, 7-5, 6-0.

Central will now face No. 3 seed Cumberland Valley (14-1) at 2 p.m. Tuesday, back at HRC. CV had a bye into the quarterfinal round.

If the Panthers win vs. CV, they would face the winner of the Dallastown-Hempfield match in the semifinals at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday at HRC. Dallastown (13-1) is seeded No. 2 and Hempfield (14-3) is seeded No. 10. Hempfield downed No. 7 seed Donegal, 5-0, to move to the quarterfinals. Dallastown, meanwhile, had a bye into the quarterfinals. The Dallastown-Hempfield match is set for 3:15 p.m. Tuesday at HRC.

Dallastown won the York-Adams Division I championship, while Central took second.

The news was not all good for York County teams.

No. 9 seed South Western dropped its AAA first-round match to No. 8 seed Lampeter-Strasburg. Regan Ford won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles for the Mustangs' only point.
