Despite blazing start, No. 7 York College women's lacrosse team falls to No. 1 Gettysburg

The York College women's lacrosse team came out with all guns blazing in their top-10 showdown vs. Gettysburg College on Wednesday.

York roared out to a 5-1 lead on the road against the Bullets, which came in ranked No. 1 nationally in NCAA Division III.

Gettysburg, however, controlled play after that en route to a 15-10 win over the No. 7 Spartans. York fell to 5-2. Defending D-III national champion Gettysburg improved to 6-0.

Meghan Fox excelled in the loss, collecting five goals and an assist. Four of her goals came in York's opening 5-1 salvo.

Caitlin Rankin (two goals, assist) and Regan Cook (two goals) also had multiple goals for York, while goalie Abby Smith had nine saves.

Courtney Patterson (four goals, three assists) and Steph Colson (four goals, assist) led the Bullets. Bailey Pilder had nine saves for Gettysburg.

York's next game is another top-10 showdown at noon Saturday at home vs. No. 3 Washington & Lee (6-2).
