YORK COLLEGE: Red Lion High graduate Sam Collis helps Spartans earn field hockey win


The York College field hockey squad earned its first win of the year Wednesday when it blanked Dickinson College 2-0 in a nonleague contest on a steamy afternoon in Carlisle.

York is now 1-1, while Dickinson fell to 0-3.

Red Lion High School graduate Sam Collis, a Spartans freshman, picked up her first career goal. Meghan Heary also scored for York, while Dana Meehling and Lindsay Nye had assists.

Sam Keating made five saves to get the win in goal.

Central York High School graduate Greta Plappert, an All-Capital Athletic Conference and All-Region forward, made her season debut after missing most of the preseason and the first game with an injury. Plappert is a junior.

York men's soccer team earns win: The York College men's soccer team was also victorious in nonleague action on Wednesday, beating Stevenson 2-1 in Owings Mills, Maryland.

The Spartans rallied from 1-0 deficit on goals from Marc Murgo and Isiah Dorsey. Brook Addisu assisted on Murgo's goal. Billy Bridegum had to make just one save to get the win in goal.

York is now 2-1, while Stevenson fell to 1-2.

Spartans fall in women's soccer: The York College women's soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss to visiting McDaniel.

York fell to 1-2 with the nonleague loss, while McDaniel improved to 2-0.

Ryan Hussey scored York's goal, off an assist from Caitlyn Findlay. Sydney Kahn had four saves in goal for York, which had a 16-14 edge in shots and a 10-4 edge in corners.
