AMHERST, MASS — The York College men's lacrosse team has advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Division III playoffs.

The second-ranked Spartans earned a 13-11 third-round victory at fourth-ranked Amherst College on Saturday afternoon.

The Spartans' now face a formidable foe in the next round — unbeaten and top-ranked RIT (20-0), which rolled to a 17-9 triumph over No. 14 Stevens on Saturday.

York will travel to RIT on Wednesday. The game time has yet to be determined.

The Spartans will make their second Elite Eight appearance in school history, with the previous Elite Eight appearance coming in 2016 vs. Gettysburg.

York improved 19-2. Amherst finished 15-4. The Spartans won the game despite getting outshot, 48-29.

The Spartans' leaders were: Hunter Davis (three goals, two assists), Matt Whitcher (three goals), Jake Hvazda (two goals, four assists), Thomas Pfeiffer (two goals), Dylan Wolf (goal, two assists) and Landry Marshall (season-high 15 saves).

The Spartans, now 9-0 on the road this season, are 6-3 all-time in the NCAA Tournament. They are 9-2 this season vs. NCAA playoff teams.

The 19 wins sets a new York College program record for wins in the season, besting the 2016 team that earned 18 wins.

Pfeiffer now owns the single-season record for points in a season at 84 on 51 goals and 33 assists. Pfeiffer broke a record that was only one-year old. Teammate Brendan McGrath had 82 points in 2017.
