YORK COLLEGE: Behind first-place effort from Tyler Newton, golf team takes another title
The York College men's golf team captured its second tournament title in a week by winning the Rosemont Raven Invitational over the weekend.
Saturday's action was held at Honeybrook Golf Club, while Sunday's round was held at Downingtown Country Club.
The Spartans finished with a two-round team total of 40-over-par 608, which was nine shots ahead of second-place Swarthmore College.
York's Tyler Newton also finished as the individual medalist with a 6-over 148 total on rounds of 69 on Saturday and 79 on Sunday.
York's Morgan Uhlick tied for sixth at 153 on rounds of 71 and 82, while two other Spartans, Luke Fayocavitz and Joel Marshall, tied for eighth at 154. Fayocavitz had rounds of 73 and 81, while Marshall had rounds of 70 and 84.
The previous Sunday, York won the McDaniel Spring Invitational at the Bridges Golf Club near Abbottstown.
Overall, the Spartans have won three tournament titles this spring and four championships during 2017-2018 campaign, which also includes the fall season.
Spartans' win streak ends at five in baseball: The York College baseball saw its five-game winning streak come to a halt on Sunday with a 10-4 Capital Athletic Conference loss to visiting Penn State Harrisburg.
York dropped to 13-13-1 overall and 6-6 in the CAC. Penn State Harrisburg improved to 23-7 and 10-3.
Grant Oberholtzer had two hits and a run scored for York. Zach Hossler, Jack Barry and Rob Acierno each doubled for the Spartans.
Tim Halasnik pitched well in relief for York, allowing one earned run over 4 2/3 innings. Ben Demchak added a scoreless inning of relief.
