YORK COLLEGE: Dalton Myers, Blayde Reich earn All-Middle Atlantic men's basketball honors


The postseason accolades continue to roll in for the York College men's basketball team.

Seniors Dalton Myers and Blayde Reich earned National Association of Basketball Coaches All-Middle Atlantic Region honors as announced by the organization on Monday.

The tandem helped lead York to one of the best seasons in school history. York finished 24-5 with a Capital Athletic Conference regular-season co-championship and tournament title. The Spartans also advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. York set a school record with a 16-game win streak and finished the year with the third-highest win total in school history.

The 6-foot, 7-inch Myers earned first-team Middle Atlantic honors after averaging 17.6 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. Myers shot 54.7 percent from the floor and 39.6 percent from 3-point range. He earned first-team All-CAC honors for the second time in his career. He was also one of 10 finalists for the Jostens Trophy, the top award for D-III basketball.

Myers finished his career with 1,499 points, good for ninth on York's all-time scoring list. Myers will play in Saturday's NABC Reese's Division III Senior All-Star Game in Salem, Virginia.

Reich concluded a stellar senior year by earning second-team All-Middle Atlantic honors. The 6-5 Reich averaged 16.4 points and 7.7 rebounds per game this season. He shot 53.2 percent from the floor. Reich ended his career with 1,143 points, good for 20th on the all-time York scoring list.

Reich also earned first-team All-CAC honors after being a second-teamer as a junior.

The pair joins Dallastown High School graduate Chad McGowan (2006-07 first team and 2007-08 first team), Delone Catholic grad Nick Brady (2009-10, first team) and Paul Kouvaris (2011-12 first team) as other Spartan NABC all-region honorees. This year marks the first time York has had a pair of all-region teammates.



Wrestlers honored for academics: Six York College wrestlers have earned National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Academic honors.

The team, meanwhile, finished 22nd overall when the annual academic awards were announced by the organization over the weekend at the NCAA D-III national tournament in Cleveland, Ohio. The Spartan team grade-point average was 3.4460 and covers the spring and fall semesters of 2017.

Head coach Duane Bastress took six national qualifiers to Cleveland and five of those wrestlers earned the individual academic honor. Seniors Hasan Alic and David Keith, juniors Greg Warner, Frankie Krauss and Joe Sindoni and freshman Eric Hutchinson each earned the academic accolade.

The Spartans finished the regular season with a dual-meet record of 12-2 and took a school-record tying six qualifiers to the national tournament. The Spartans entered the tournament ranked 14th in the country in D-III.

Nominees must have at least a 3.2 GPA for the previous full academic year. Wrestlers must also be a national qualifier and have a minimum win percentage of at least .500.

Wrestlers can also be considered if they placed in the top six at their respective regional tournament, own a win percentage of .500 or better and competed in half of the institution's scheduled competition in NCAA championship events. A wrestler can also be considered if they have a win percentage of .670 or better and competed in half of the institution's scheduled NCAA events.

Warner finished with a runner-up national finish at 149 pounds. He is a sport management major with a 3.2 GPA in his last two consecutive semesters. Warner finished 32-4 and has 94 career wins for York.

Alic advanced to the national tournament after finishing third at the Southeast Regional at 197. Alic finished his senior year 22-13. Alic is a sociology major and has a cumulative GPA of 3.21.

Keith finished 16-5 at 165. He owns a 3.72 cumulative GPA and is a secondary education-mathematics major.

Krauss earned a national tournament berth after finishing third at the Southeast Regional at 184. Krauss finished 31-7 and is a sport management major and boasts a 3.74 cumulative GPA.

Sindoni went 2-2 at nationals and is an intelligence analysis major and owns an overall GPA of 3.52.

Hutchinson finished second at 157 at regionals to earn a berth at the national tournament. He went 19-11 overall. Hutchinson is undecided on his major and earned a 3.2 GPA in his first collegiate semester.

Both lacrosse teams still in top 10: Both York College lacrosse teams remained ranked in the top 10 nationally in NCAA Division III, despite losses last week.

The York men (5-1) held steady at No. 4 in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association rankings, despite falling to No. 3 Gettysburg (6-0) on Wednesday, 8-6.

The York women (2-1) dropped from No. 6 to No. 9 in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association poll after suffering a 12-11 loss to No. 12 Messiah (2-2).
