A pair of clutch free throws with seven seconds left to play by Dalton Myers capped a game-high 34-point effort that helped the No. 8 York College men’s basketball team squeeze out an 81-78 victory against visiting St. Mary’s (Md.) on Wednesday night.

Jason Bady added 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists for the Spartans, who nearly saw a 37-23 halftime lead evaporate late.

The win moves the Spartans' record to 21-3 on the year, with a 14-3 mark in Capital Athletic Conference play. It also clinches at least a share of the CAC regular-season title. York is currently one game ahead of second-place Christopher Newport (19-5, 13-4 CAC).

The Spartans finish regular-season play with a trip to Christopher Newport on Saturday. A win there would give York the regular-season outright title and the top seed for the CAC tournament.

St. Mary's fell to 3-21 and 2-15.

York College women roll: The York College women's team had no trouble with St. Mary's, rolling to a 76-42 win in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader at the Grumbacher Center.

McGowan poured in a game-high 17 points on 6 of 10 shooting, including hitting both of her 3-point attempts. McGowan also grabbed 10 rebounds. Red Lion graduate Morgan Kuehne finished one rebound shy of a double-double of her own, scoring 10 points and posting nine boards.

Sam Mocniak also scored 17 points for York, knocking down 5 of 9 3-point attempts in the process.
