The beat goes on for the York College men's basketball team.
The unbeaten Spartans extended their season-long winning streak to 16 on Wednesday night with an 88-74 road victory at St. Mary's (Maryland) College.
York, ranked No. 4 nationally in NCAA Division III in the latest d3hoops.com poll, got key contributions from a pair of former York-Adams League standouts.
Central York High School graduate Jared Wagner had 15 points, five assists, three steals and three rebounds. Spring Grove grad Darin Gordon came off the bench for a season-high 13 points, including a 3-for-3 effort from 3-point range. Both are sophomores.
Blayde Reich led the Spartans with 25 points, while Jason Bady added 11 points, five assists, five rebounds and four steals. Joey Polczynski added 15 points off the bench.
York won despite playing without the services of second-leading scorer Dalton Myers.
The first-place Spartans improved to 9-0 in the Capital Athletic Conference. St. Mary's fell to 3-13 and 2-7.
York women also win: The York women also won at St. Mary's on Wednesday, 56-41.
Beth Wisely (11 points, eight rebounds, three assists, three steals), York Suburban grad Molley Day (11 points, five rebounds, two blocks) and Sam Mocniak (10 points, four rebounds, three blocks) paced the Spartans.
York improved to 11-5 overall and 7-2 in the CAC. St. Mary's fell to 6-9 and 2-7.
The Spartans won despite playing without Susquehannock grad Katie Wagner and Dallastown grad Katie McGowan, who lead the team in scoring at 13.9 points per game apiece. Both players were ill.
