YORK COLLEGE: Ali Posey, Greta Plappert help surging Spartans' field hockey team to win

STAFF REPORT

The No. 18 York College field hockey team secured its fifth consecutive win on Wednesday, Oct. 11, shutting out Bridgewater (Virginia), 4-0.

York College's Ali Posey, a Red Lion High School graduate, scored a goal to help the 18th-ranked Spartans defeat Bridgewater, 4-0, on Wednesday, Oct. 11.

Two of the four goals were scored by York County products. Ali Posey (Red Lion) and Greta Plappert (Central York) each scored a goal.

The Spartans (10-2) played their first game as a nationally-ranked team since 2001. It took them a little while to get rolling, leading just 1-0 at the half. But, three goals in the second half helped York pull away from Bridgewater (4-9) to earn the convincing win.

Along with Plappert and Posey, Autumn Mallory and Dana Meehling also scored goals to pace the Spartan offense. Mallory's goal was her Capital Athletic Conference-leading 15th of the season.

York out-shot Bridgewater, 17-4, needing goalie Eve Hauptle to only make three saves to earn the shutout.
