The York College field hockey team opened up Capital Athletic Conference play with a convincing 5-1 win at Wesley on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 1, in Dover, Delaware.

The win also closed out a three-game road swing for the Spartans, who won two of the three road games.

York improved to 7-2 overall, while Wesley fell to 2-9.

Central York High School graduate Greta Plappert and freshman Dana Meehling each scored two goals for the Spartans. Autumn Mallory had York's other goal. Red Lion grad Ali Posey, Lindsay Nye and Beth Patrick added assists for York.

Plappert, a sophomore, is now second on the team in scoring with eight goals and one assist for 17 points. Posey, a senior, and Patrick are tied for the team lead in assists with four.

The Spartans dominated statistically, outshooting Wesley, 31-5, including a 15-2 margin in shots on goal. York also held a 14-3 advantage in penalty corners.

The Spartans have won two straight and seven of their last eight games.

The Spartans return to Kinsley Field at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, to kick off a season-high five match home stand. The Spartans welcome Stevenson University to Kinsley Field for a non-conference match up.
