Sophomore women's volleyball player Madyson Whitcomb has been named the Spartan Athlete of the Week at York College for the week ending Sunday, Sept. 17.
The Bermudian Springs High School graduate led the Spartans to a 3-1 week with non-conference wins over Elizabethtown, Messiah and Houghton.
The 6-foot middle hitter began the week with eight kills, seven block assists and a dig for 11.5 points in the 3-1 win over Elizabethtown in the Spartans' home opener on Monday night, Sept. 11.
Whitcomb had a huge match on Saturday morning, Sept. 16, as she registered a career-high 22 kills with a career-high .475 attack percentage in the Spartans' five-set win over Messiah. She also had six block assists as she notched a team-best 25 points in the win.
Whitcomb closed out the week with eight kills and a dig in the 3-1 win over Houghton.
For the week, Whitcomb notched 40 kills in 16 sets (2.50 kills per game) with a .315 attack percentage. She also had 15 total blocks (0.94 blocks per set) and had 48.5 points for the week.
For the season, Whitcomb leads the Spartans with 105 kills in 46 sets played. She is hitting .288 while she also leads the team with 45 blocks (a team-high 11 solo blocks). Whitcomb leads York with 134.0 points, good for an average of 2.9 points per set.
