The York College softball team continues hot streak

- York needed extra innings to win the second game, prevailing in eight frames.
- Starting pitchers Ginger Lewis and Melissa Jurkiewicz allowed a combined three hits in the two games for the Spartans.
The York College softball team continued its week-long hot streak on Tuesday, sweeping its non-conference road doubleheader over Elizabethtown.
The Spartans didn't allow a run in either game, winning the first game, 6-0, and then needing eight innings to prevail, 2-0.
In the second game, York (23-11) scored twice in the top of the eighth to complete the sweep. Carleigh Ruleman broke the scoreless tie with an RBI double to put the Spartans ahead, 1-0. It was the second of her two doubles in the game. Kara Hanson, serving as a pinch runner, later came around to score as an insurance run.
York starter Melissa Jurkiewicz finished off her complete-game two-hitter in the bottom of the eighth. The Blue Jays fell to 4-20.
In the opening game, Ruleman and Haley Hirn each crushed home runs, while Savannah Galati had two doubles. In the circle, Ginger Lewis surrendered just one hit, while striking out five.
York has now won eight consecutive games.
