York College erupts for 26 runs in baseball triumph
The York College bats came alive in a huge way during the first game of Sunday’s home baseball doubleheader against Capital Athletic Conference foe Mary Washington.
A pair of York-Adams Leauge products played a large part in the offensive onslaught, which saw the Spartans pound out 24 hits during a 26-12 slugfest victory.
Kennard-Dale High School graduate graduate Collin Crowell went 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles, six RBIs and three runs scored. York Catholic graduate Patrick Clement posted a 1-for-3 effort with three RBIs and a run scored.
Seth Brosius provided the most pop for the Spartans, clubbing a pair of homers and driving in seven runs while going 3 for 4 with two runs scored.
Elliot Mortimer got the win for York, giving up four runs on seven hits, while striking out six and walking two over six innings.
After the offensive explosion in the first game, the two teams settled into a bit more of a pitching battle in the second. York, however, was again the victor, this time by a 3-1 score.
Christian Bilan was the Spartans’ leader, going 2 for 4 with a pair of RBIs.
Randy Frankenfield pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing one run on six hits while striking out five and walking four to pick up his second victory of the season.
The wins pushed York's record to 14-11 overall and 9-6 in the CAC. Mary Washington fell to 13-16 and 6-9.
Softball team sweeps: The Yok College softball team traveled to McDaniel and picked a up a pair of non-conference victories Sunday.
The pair of Joanna Marmo and Carleigh Ruleman had their fingerprints all over both victories.
In the first game, a 9-3 decision, Marmo homered and drove in a pair of runs, while Ruleman went 2 for 2 with a homer, three runs scored and three RBIs.
During a 10-4 triumph in the second game, Marmo drove in four runs on a pair of hits, and scored a run as well. Ruleman also added a pair of hits, one being a home run, and drove in two runs.
York is now 21-11 on the season.
Tennis results: The York College men’s tennis team split a pair of CAC matches Sunday. The Spartans defeated St. Mary’s (Md.), 6-3, and dropped a 9-0 decision to Mary Washington. The win moves York’s record to 2-8 on the season. No other details were reported.
The York College women’s tennis team bested St. Mary’s (Md.), 7-2. York ran its record to 6-5 with the victory. No other details were reported.
