The York College men's team achieved a lacrosse rarity on Wednesday — a shutout.

The Spartans, ranked No. 3 in NCAA Division III, crushed Wesley, 21-0, in a Capital Athletic Conference match at Kinsley Field. It was just the second shutout in program history. York has won nine straight.

York improved to 12-1 overall and 5-0 in the CAC. Wesley fell to 4-9, 0-5.

York used three goalies (Landry Marshall, Jake White and Gunnar Nemeth), who collectively made eight saves.

Thomas Pfeiffer (five goals, assist) and Cameron Leech (two goals, four assists) paced the York offense. Pfeiffer had all his goals in the opening quarter, when York scored 10 times. Leech's six points were a career high.

York women's lacrosse team blows out Wesley: The York College women's lacrosse team nearly matched its male counterpart with a shutout, but came up a goal shy, knocking off Wesley, 18-1. The Spartans (10-2 overall, 5-0 CAC) didn't allow a goal until about seven minutes left in the game. Seventh-ranked York scored the first 17 goals. Six different Spartans scored two goals. Katelyn Cattrano added four assists to her two goals to finish with a game-high six points.

Spartans' softball team earns sweep: The York College softball team earned a doubleheader road sweep of Penn State Harrisburg on Wednesday, winning 12-1 and 3-1. Ginger Lewis got the complete-game win in the opener, which went just five innings, striking out five without a walk. Melissa Jurkiewicz (9-4) won the second game in another complete game, this one seven innings. In the first game, Carleigh Ruleman (two hits, homer, three RBIs, three runs) and Haley Hirn (two hits, homer, three RBIs, run) led the offense. In the second game, the hitting leaders were Savannah Zittle (two hits, two runs), Ruleman (two hits, RBI), Katie Maloney (two hits) and Hirn (homer) York improved to 17-11 overall and 3-5 in the CAC. Penn State Harrisburg fell to 10-10 and 2-6.

York baseball team beaten by Frostburg State: The York College baseball team tried to mount a late-inning rally, but it fell short, losing, 10-8, to Frostburg State. The Spartans (12-11 overall, 7-6 CAC) trailed 10-2 before scoring once in the sixth and five times in the seventh to cut the deficit to two. Their magic ran out, however, as the Bobcats (14-12, 6-7 CAC) held on for the win. York had five different players credited with RBIs. Grant Olberholtzer and Seth Brosius each had two hits.

PSU York baseball team downed by PSU Brandywine: The Penn State York baseball team was in a 2-2 tie with Penn State Brandywine before the visitors scored the game's final seven runs to win, 9-2. The big inning came in the top of the eighth when Brandywine scored four times to blow open a 5-2 game. Drew Fritz and Austin Shaffer each drove in runs for PSU York, while Fritz collected two hits.
