YORK COLLEGE: Softball team splits games in Florida
The York College softball team split two games in Clermont, Florida, on Wednesday, defeating Concordia Moorhead 3-1 after losing to the Milwaukee School of Engineering 3-2 in the morning.
Ginger Lewis earned the first victory of her Spartans career in the circle in a full seven innings of work against Concordia. She allowed three hits, while striking out seven and walking three. The York pitching staff has combined for a 1.72 ERA. York was led offensively by Ashley Werner (2 for 3, run scored) and Carleigh Ruleman (2 for 2, run scored, BB). Werner is hitting .440 on the year, going 11-for-25 with three triples and a .560 slugging percentage
In the opening loss, Katie Maloney led York's offense with two runs scored, three walks and two stolen bases. Melissa Jurkiewicz (4-1) took the loss, going five innings and allowing three earned runs. The loss ended a four-game winning streak.
The Spartans moved to 6-3 on their 12-game Florida trip. Both of York's foes on Wednesday are now 2-1.
York College baseball team loses: The York College baseball team dropped to 1-2 on the season on Wednesday with a 6-4 loss to Methodist in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
