York College suffers pair of CAC playoff setbacks

The York College basketball teams suffered a pair of Capital Athletic Conference semifinal playoff losses on Thursday night.

The York men dropped a heartbreaking 86-80 double-overtime decision at Salisbury University. York fell to 17-10, while Salisbury improved to 20-6.

Central York High School graduate Jared Wagner scored 17 points Thursday night for York College.

The women's team, meanwhile, fell to a powerhouse Christopher Newport outfit, 73-52, on the Captains' home court in Newport News, Virginia. CNU, which is ranked No. 8 in NCAA Division III, improved to 24-2. York College fell to 18-9. It was the third time York fell to CNU this season.

In the men's game, York got big efforts from Blayde Reich (21 points, 10 rebounds), Jason Bady (19 points, four rebounds, four assists), Central York High School grad Jared Wagner (17 points, six rebounds, five assists) and Matt Scamuffo (16 points), but it wasn't quite enough. Wagner is just a freshman. York was outscored at the foul line, 24-19, while Salisbury had a 22-14 edge in points off turnovers. York was also out-rebounded, 54-44.
