YORK COLLEGE: Spartans earn basketball sweep vs. Wesley

The York College basketball teams enjoyed a very successful road trip to Dover, Delaware, on Wednesday night.

Playing the middle game of three consecutive road games, the York College women bounced back from Saturday's defeat to Salisbury with a convincing 75-60 triumph at Wesley on Wednesday.

The York College men also triumphed over Wesley, 89-69.

The Spartan women (16-6 overall, 10-5 Capital Athletic Conference) trailed after the first quarter, but, they responded with strong second and third quarters to grab a 16-point lead heading into the final quarter.

The win for York was its fourth out of the last five games and ninth out of its last 11.

Red Lion High School graduate grad Morgan Kuehne led the charge offensively for the Spartans, dropping in 16 points. Sam Hruz was a force, both scoring the ball and on the boards, posting 12 points and 12 rebounds. She was one of three York players to finish with 12 points, including Susquehannock grad Katie Wagner and Dallastown grad Katie McGowan. McGowan also added seven boards coming off the bench.

The Wolverines (7-15, 3-12 CAC) were led by two players, with starter Brionna Johnson scoring a game-high 22 points and Alexus Stroud coming off the bench to record 18 points and seven blocks.

The Spartans will conclude their road swing with a game at Marymount (Virginia) at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Men roll past Wesley: The York men followed suit with a win of its own over Wesley.

The Spartans (14-8, 9-6 CAC) only led by five at the break, but came out fast to begin the second half, extending their lead to 13 just five minutes into the half. York went on to outscore the Wolverines (9-13, 7-8 CAC) by 15 in the second half to turn the game into a rout.

Four different Spartans scored in double figures, led by Brad Wesner's 25 off the bench, including seven 3-pointers. Matt Scamuffo added 12, while Blayde Reich and Spring Grove grad Darin Gordon each had 11. Central York grad Jared Wagner stuffed the stat sheet, scoring eight points, pulling down six rebounds, dishing out five assists, getting four steals and recording three blocks.

With the win, York clinched a berth in the CAC playoffs.

York will also conclude its three-game road trip with a game against Marymount (Virginia) on Saturday after the conclusion of the women's game.
