York College wrestler honored after weekend of success

York College senior wrestler Ryan Flynn has been named the Spartan Athlete of the Week.

York College senior wrestler Ryan Flynn finished his Spartans career at 131-35. Those 131 victories are the most in Spartans history, 17 more than York College assistant coach Kyle Flickinger (114-40). His 40-5 mark this season ties the school’s single-season wins record, one he shares with head coach Duane Bastress.

Flynn had an unbeaten week for the Spartans, going 4-0, including winning the championship of the Messiah Open.

Friday night, Flynn earned a 9-1 major decision win over Messiah’s Hunter Harris in a battle of nationally ranked squads.

He followed that with a trio of wins en route to his 133-pound championship at the Messiah Open in Grantham. Flynn opened his day with a 10-1 win over Kutztown's Nick Klinger. He then earned a trip to the finals with a 9-1 semifinal win over Millersville's Aaron Wildonger. Flynn capped the run with a 9-1 win over American University's Garrett Clifford.

Flynn is now 32-2 with a team-high 10 major decisions. Flynn now owns 123 career wins as he continues to push his school record higher. Flynn has won 15 straight decisions since his last loss in the New Standard Invitational championship bout.

Flynn is ranked third in NCAA Division III at 133 pounds.
