YORK COLLEGE: Ex-Central York swimmer Tate honored


York College freshman swimmer Jesse Tate recently set a school record in the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.62 seconds during Saturday’s victory against Salisbury in York.

At the same meet, he also set a new pool record in the 200 individual medley in 1:58.98.

For those efforts, Tate — who was home schooled but competed for Central York in high school — was named the Capital Athletic Conference Men’s Swimmer of the Week on Tuesday.

Tate also posted a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle Saturday with a time of 1:47.51 and was also part of the victorious 400 medley relay team, which finished in 3:38.59.

Through two meets this season, Tate has recorded three individual victories.



Spartans fall in CAC men's soccer tournament: The York College men's soccer team saw its season end with a 2-1, overtime loss to Mary Washington in the CAC tournament semifinals Tuesday.

The Eagles’ Jack Saslowsky netted the winner 2:12 into the extra session.

York’s Jordan Evans scored off a Matt Freibaum assist to knot the game at a goal each in the first half. Evans’ marker came 2:22 after the Eagles’ Ryan Van Maanen opened the game’s scoring.

Mary Washington dominated the stat sheet, owning a 17-4 edge in shots, an 8-4 margin in shots on goal and a 12-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Spartans finished at 8-9-2. Mary Washington improved to 14-3.

Women’s volleyball team swept in CAC playoffs: The York College women's volleyball team fell to Christopher Newport, 25-19, 25-6, 25-19, in the first round of the CAC tournament Tuesday in Newport News, Virginia.

Eryn Brady and Madyson Whitcomb each recorded five kills for York. Teammate Alexis Harbold posted seven digs, while Sarah Wukitch had seven assists.

The Spartans finished 21-10. Christopher Newport improved to 24-8.
