York College baseball team loses close one to Montclair

A late-inning rally by the York College baseball team fell short in its 3-2 loss at Montclair State on Wednesday.

York College Spartans

After falling behind 1-0 after the fourth inning, the Spartans (9-26-1) tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the seventh. However, the Red Hawks (18-16) struck for two runs in the bottom half of the frame to regain the lead. York scratched across a run in the top of the eighth to make it a one-run game again, but couldn't complete the comeback. Patrick Clement drove in the Spartans' run in the seventh on an RBI single. Logan Countryman was responsible for driving in York's other run in the top of the eighth on a single.

Spartans' starter Joel Kenney pitched a strong game in the loss, going 6 1/3 innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on seven hits, with two walks and five strikeouts. Reliever Scott Steffy recorded the final five outs without allowing a base runner, striking out two.

The loss for the Spartans snapped their mini two-game winning streak. York will have its Senior Day during its final home game of the season on Thursday when it hosts Penn State Berks at 3:30 p.m.
