CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The York College golf team finished out the 2016 Capital Athletic Conference Championship in fourth place out of seven teams competing at the Bay Creek Resort Nicklaus Course in Sunday's final round.
Freshman Tyler Newton led York through all three rounds and earned a First Team All-CAC selection. He placed sixth overall with a total score of 238 to finish 22 over par.
Christopher Newport won the overall team title for the third straight year. The Captains are in their third season as a member of the CAC. CNU compiled a team score of 936 to finish 72 over par. Marymount placed second with a score of 967, which as 93 over par. Penn State-Harrisburg rounded out the top three with a score of 1,004 to finish 139 over par. York was at 1,009, 145 over par.
Newton had rounds of 78, 82 and 78. He is the ninth First Team All-CAC selection in program history since the CAC started sponsoring golf in the 2007-08 season.
Senior Tyler Keim closed out his Spartan career by placing 15th overall and second on the York squad. Keim had a total of 256 on scores of 89, 78 and 89 to finish 40 over par.
Senior Ryan Wolbach closed out his Spartan career by placing 16th overall with a 257 total (83, 81, 93) to finish 41 over par.
saved his best round of the tournament for Sunday. The York junior moved up five spots from the day before to finish 21st overall at 266. Colton carded an 84 on Sunday to go with an 88 on Saturday and a 94 on Friday.
Brandon Hur rounded out the Spartan lineup. He finished in a tie for 22nd overall. The sophomore carded a 267 total.
Christopher Newport swept the conference awards for Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year. Jamie Coleman won his third straight coaching award and Sam Robinson took home the third straight Player of the Year honor for CNU. He finished 13 over par at 229. Joe Corlett took home the Rookie of the Year. He placed second, three strokes behind his teammate Robinson.
