York picked fifth in CAC softball poll

The York College women's softball team has been picked to finish fifth in the eight-team Capital Athletic Conference this season.
The Spartans are coming off a 2015 season when they finished 23-19 overall and 7-7 in the CAC.
Two-time defending champion Christopher Newport was again selected as the favorite to claim the conference title this spring. The Captains received five first-place votes and totaled 47 points to sit atop the 2016 CAC Softball Preseason Coaches’ Poll. Salisbury earned the remaining three first-place votes and finished narrowly behind CNU in second place with 45 points.
Frostburg State was picked to finish third with 37 points. Mary Washington totaled 29 points to claim fourth in the poll, while York rounded out the top five with 26 points.
York begins the season Sunday, Feb. 28, in the Clermont, Florida, with two games. At 9 a.m. Sunday, York faces at Otterbein, while at 11 a.m. Sunday, the Spartans take on Lyndon State. York is scheduled for 10 games in Florida through Friday, March 4.
The Spartans' home opener is Friday, March 11, in a doubleheader vs. Elizabethtown. Action that day starts at 3 p.m.
