The York College baseball team got a walk-off grand slam from junior Logan Countryman in the bottom of the 12th inning to earn a dramatic 13-11 baseball victory over Virginia Wesleyan in a back-and-forth contest on Sunday in Demorest, Georgia.
The game was York's final contest in the Piedmont College Early Spring Classic. York is now 1-2 overall, while the Marlins are now 2-1 overall.
York forced extra innings in the bottom of the ninth when Zach Hossler reached on an error, was sacrificed to second and scored on a Sean Mohollen RBI single, which tied the game at 9-9.
Virginia Wesleyan pushed across a pair of runs in the top of the 12th.
The game-winning rally started with a Seth Brosius single in the bottom of the 12th. Michael Moore then singled to put runners at first and second. The duo was sacrificed up one base each and Hossler was intentionally walked. Countryman then blasted a 2-2 pitch out of the park for the win.
Countryman finished 2 for 4 with five RBIs, three runs scored and a homer. Moore was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored Hossler hit his first career homer and finished with two RBIs and four runs scored. Mohollen finished with two RBIs.
The Spartans trailed three times during the game (3-0, 9-8, and 11-9)
Eleven of the 29 runs allowed by the Spartans in the Classic were unearned. York had eight errors in three games while their opponents had two.
The Spartans return to York Sunday evening and will head back out to Hampden-Sydney to take on the Tigers on Saturday, Feb. 27, at 11 a.m. York will then take on Moravian at Hampden-Sydney on Sunday, Feb. 28, at 11 a.m.

Spartans' Dell wins 5,000 run at CAC indoor meet: The York College men's track and field squad finished fourth out of seven teams at the 2016 Capital Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia.
The Spartans totaled 58 points. Host CNU won the title with 166 points, followed by Salisbury (118 points) and Wesley (92 points). The Spartans had one champion. Sophomore Grant Dell was victorious in the 5,000-meter run. Dell also earned a second-place finish in the 3,000-meter run. Senior Alex Palescandolo earned a runner-up finish in the shot put. Alex Smith, Darnell Tillman, and Kevin Landis each earned third-place finishes for York. Smith was third in the 3K, Tillman in the 400 dash and Landis in the pole vault.
The York women placed fifth in the same meet with 61 points. York was two points behind fourth-place Mary Washington and 15 back of third-place Salisbury (76 points). CNU won the team title with 146 points, while Wesley was second with 116 points. York received second-place finishes from Alicia Dillman in the 5K, Kacey Fogelsanger in the 3K, the distance medley relay squad of Jess Delviscio, Jenna Roberts, Shannon Kuseryk, and Alayna DeBruin, and also the 4x400 meter relay squad of Jada Griffin-Howard, Jenna Roberts, Emily Plante, and Emily Cronise. York went 2-3-4 in the 5K, as Kathleen Cannon placed third followed by Kristi Wandzilak. The Spartans also went 2-3-4-5 in the 3K. Roberts finished third followed by Dillman and Cannon. Griffin-Howard also set a new school record in the 400 dash.
