York College was picked third in the Capital Athletic Conference Men’s Lacrosse Preseason Coaches’ poll.
Salisbury was selected as the unanimous choice to three-peat. The Sea Gulls received eight first-place votes and 64 points to enter the 2016 season as the favorite. Frostburg State, which advanced to last year’s title game for the first time in program history, received one first-place vote and totaled 55 points to rank second. York was third with 48 points.
In the 23-year history of CAC men’s lacrosse, Salisbury has captured 19 conference crowns. The Sea Gulls went on to represent the CAC in the NCAA Tournament last year, advancing to the quarterfinals before falling to eventual national runner-up Lynchburg, 13-11.
Salisbury, Frostburg State and York each enter the year receiving preseason recognition, with the Sea Gulls ranked in the top five by both the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association and Lacrosse Magazine, and the Bobcats and Spartans receiving votes in the USILA poll.
York finished 10-9 overall last season, including 5-3 in the CAC.
The Spartans open the 2016 season on Wednesday, Feb. 17, at Eastern. Their home opener is Saturday Feb. 20, vs. Washington and Jefferson.
