York College splits against Wesley


Sam Hruz had a double-double to power the York College women's basketball team to a 72-62 victory over Wesley College in Dover, Delaware, on Wednesday.

Hruz, a 6-foot, 1-inch junior, poured in 21 points to go along with 13 rebounds, five steals, two assists and two blocks. She finished 8 for 15 from the field.

Two York County standouts, Red Lion High School graduate Morgan Kuehne and West York High School graduate Sarah Shearer each added 12 points for the Spartans. Shearer also had seven rebounds.

The keys to the win were points off turnovers (a 22-9 edge for the Spartans) and points in the paint (a 38-16 edge for York).

York improved to 16-4 overall and 10-3 in the Capital Athletic Conference, while Wesley fell to 5-15 and 4-9. The Spartans completed a season sweep of Wesley.

Men's game: The York College men weren't as fortunate against Wesley, dropping a 69-60 decision.

The Spartans fell to 9-11 overall and 5-8 in the CAC. Wesley is 7-13 and 5-8. Matt Scamuffo had 21 points and five rebounds for York, while Dalton Myers added 16 points and eight rebounds. Chris Conway chipped in 10 points.
