For the second straight day, the York College men's basketball team had a chance to earn a win on the final possession.
But, for the second straight day, the Spartans came up short, this time falling to Washington College (Maryland) by one point, 45-44, in the consolation game of the Louis Fleming Basinger Tournament at Lycoming College.
The Spartans (6-4) were held to just nine points in the opening half, when they shot just 19 percent from the field, including 0 for 7 from 3-point range. York picked up its offensive output in the second frame, scoring 35 points, mounting a charge, but came up just a point short against the Shoremen (2-6).
Blayde Reich scored a game-high 16 points for the Spartans, followed by 11 from Matt Scamuffo. They were the only two York players to reach double figures.
The Spartans will look to snap their mini two-game losing streak on Saturday when they host Penn State-Harrisburg in Capital Athletic Conference action. Tip-off for that game is scheduled for 3 p.m.
