York College women's soccer team will travel to Ohio, face No. 4 team in first-round NCAA Division III match

The York College women's soccer team learned its destination on Monday for the NCAA Division III Tournament.

The Spartans (9-10) are heading to Denison University in Granville, Ohio, for the tournament's opening weekend. York will face Washington (Missouri) in the tournament's opening round. Denison will also host DeSales University in the first round on Saturday at Denison. Game times for Saturday's matches will be announced on Tuesday afternoon.

The winners of Saturday's games will then meet on Sunday at Denison in a second-round match.

The Spartans earned their NCAA berth courtesy of their 1-0 Capital Athletic Conference Championship victory at Mary Washington on Saturday in double overtime. York won all three of its CAC Tournament games on the road and all three wins came against teams that had beaten York in the regular season.

York's opening round opponent brings a 16-2 record to the tournament. The Bears won the University Athletic Association (UAA) automatic bid after their win over University of Chicago on Saturday. The Bears are ranked No. 4 in the nation in Division III. The NCAA tournament appearance is the 10th straight for Washington and 15th overall.

Denison (15-4), which received an at-large berth in the tournament, is ranked No. 21.

DeSales (14-5) and York are not ranked. DeSales is the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Division champion.

Dover High School graduate Maxine Herman, a sophomore, is tied for the team lead in goals scored for York with four.
