York College field hockey team ousted in CAC semifinals

The York College field hockey team had its season come to a close on Wednesday afternoon in the semifinal round of the Capital Athletic Conference Championship Tournament with a 4-1 loss on the road to No. 11 Mary Washington.

The Spartans finished 10-9, while Eagles improved to 14-4.

The Spartans avoided the shutout by scoring with less than seven minutes to play. Morgan Weaver recorded the tally when she knocked in a loose ball rebound in a scrum in front of the cage.

Mary Washington finished with a 24-7 advantage in shots and a 15-5 advantage in penalty corners.

Spartan goalkeeper Eve Hauptle, who faced relentless pressure all game, finished with 12 saves, one shy of tying her career best.

The Eagles advanced to the CAC Championship on Saturday.

Third-year York head coach Carly Zinn has led her team to back-to-back double-digit win totals and trips to the CAC semifinals.
