YORK COLLEGE: Women's soccer, field hockey teams each earn 4-3 wins
The York College women's soccer took down Penn State Harrisburg, 4-3, Wednesday in a Capital Athletic Conference showdown in Middletown.
The Spartans got the scoring started in the 15th minute when sophomore Maxine Herman, a Dover High School graduate, picked up her second goal of the year to put York ahead 1-0 early. York also got a first-half goal from Baylee DiPietro.
Trailing 3-2 in the second half, the Spartans' Alyssa Rankin took over. Rankin scored an unassisted goal in the 70th minute to even the score, and 12 minutes later, she notched the game-winner on a feed from Emily Birsa.
York finished the game holding a commanding 19-9 margin in total shots and a 14-7 advantage in shots on goal. The Spartans notched a 5-1 margin in corner kicks.
Goalie Kate Lutte got the win in net with four saves.
The Spartans improved to 5-9 overall and 3-4 in the CAC. The Lions fell to 5-8-1 and 3-4.

Spartans triumph in field hockey: A Lindsay Nye hat trick carried York College to a 4-3 field hockey victory at Frostburg State on Wednesday. Red Lion graduate Ali Posey had the other goal for York. York improved to 8-7 overall and 2-3 in the CAC. Frostburg fell to 8-7 and 1-2.
York falls in women's volleyball: At York, the Spartans had a 2-1 lead before dropping the final two games in a 23-25, 25-20, 25-18, 20-25, 7-15 home defeat vs. Frostburg State. Frostburg got a match-high 24 kills from Central York grad Naya Cheatem. The Spartans were led by 12 kills from Kelly Cavey and 11 kills from Eryn Brady. York also got 24 digs from Katherine Graziano. York fell to 10-15 overall and 2-3 in the CAC. Frostburg is 14-14 and 3-3.
