YORK COLLEGE: Spartans earn wins in women's soccer, field hockey and volleyball
The York College women's soccer team snapped a four-game losing streak with Wednesday's 3-2 home victory against Capital Athletic Conference foe Wesley.
The Spartans got the scoring started early when Alyssa Rankin scored her first collegiate goal off an assist from her sister, Caitlin, less than five minutes into the match.
York pushed its lead to 2-0 on a goal by Dover High graduate Maxine Herman, who scored off an assist from Jamie Sokolis. The Spartans tacked on their final goal later in the first half when Sokolis scored off a pass from Alyssa Rankin.
York improved to 4-8 overall and 2-3 in the CAC. Wesley fell to 5-6-2 and 2-3.

York wins in field hockey: At York, the Spartans' field hockey team trailed after the first half, but found its stride in the second to score a pair of unanswered goals and claim a 2-1 victory over St. Mary's. Lindsay Nye got the Spartans on the board with a deflection goal. The Spartans' Autumn Mallory, who assisted on Nye's goal, then scored the eventual game winner off an assist from Sydney LaMarsh. The Spartans improved to 7-6 overall and 1-2 in the CAC. St. Mary's fell to 6-6 and 1-2.
Spartans triumph in volleyball: At Middletown, the York women's volleyball team dropped the opening game before rebounding nicely in a 22-25, 25-9, 25-17, 25-16 road victory vs. Penn State Harrisburg. Freshman Brooke Krebs, a New Oxford High graduate, led all Spartans with 15 kills. She also added 10 digs. Sarah Wukitch paced the Spartans' offense, dishing out 36 assists. York improved to 10-13.
