Penn State tight end Brent Wilkerson has been dismissed from the football program, a spokesperson for the athletic department confirmed on Wednesday.

“Brent Wilkerson is no longer a member of the Penn State football team due to a violation of team rules,” the department said in a statement to the Centre Daily Times. “We appreciate Brent’s contributions to the program and wish him success in the future.”

Wilkerson, who was suspended from team activities after being charged last month with a misdemeanor count of indecent assault and summary harassment, was scheduled to appear in court earlier this month. The preliminary hearing was originally scheduled for April 6, but was moved and then waived.

An affidavit of the incident detailed Wilkerson, after a night of drinking, allegedly inviting himself into the home of a 24-year-old female friend who was sober and lived in the same apartment complex.

The woman told police he eventually fell asleep on her bed and “would not wake up,” and that she awoke 45 minutes later with Wilkerson pulling her to him, wearing only his underwear and undershirt.

According to the affidavit, the woman said she continued to tell him to stop, but the situation escalated with Wilkerson attempting to undress her, holding her neck and kissing her body. The woman said that at one point, Wilkerson exposed himself and began masturbating. She told police no actual intercourse occurred.

The police account in the affidavit said that his version of the alleged incident largely mirrors hers.

Wilkerson’s formal arraignment and preliminary hearing were waived, according to the Centre County Court of Common Pleas.
