PSU's Nassib, Barkley earn honors

York Dispatch

Penn State defensive end Carl Nassib and running back Saquon Barkley have earned All-America honors.

Penn State running back Saquon Barkley is coming off a 1,000-yard season as a freshman.

Nassib added first team All-America honors from CBS Sports to his list of accolades from his standout senior season. He earned a spot on the USA Today All-America second team Tuesday.

On Wednesday, Nassib won the 46th Rotary Lombardi Award for the nation’s top lineman (offense or defense) or linebacker and the 14th Ted Hendricks Award for the nation’s top defensive end.

The West Chester native was picked as the Big Ten’s Nagurski-Woodson Defensive Player of the Year and earned first team All-Big Ten honors from both the coaches and media.

Despite playing only four snaps in the last two games due to injury, Nassib leads Football Bowl Subdivision in sacks (15.5) and forced fumbles (six) and is second in FBS and first in the Big Ten in tackles for loss (19.5). He broke the Penn State single-season sacks record.

Barkley, meanwhile, has been named to the USA Today Sports Freshman All-America Team.

Barkley set Penn State's freshman rushing record, totaling 1,007 yards in 10 games played. Barkley previously was named second-team all-Big Ten this season.
