PENN STATE NOTES: Army game to kick off at noon; Barkley honored again by Big Ten

STAFF REPORT
YorkDispatch

Penn State's sold out Military Appreciation game against Army on Saturday, Oct. 3, will kick off at noon and be televised on ESPNU.

The game is the fourth of five consecutive games at Beaver Stadium.

Penn State has a 13-10-2 all-time record against Army. The squads last met in 1979 with Penn State posting a 24-3 victory on Homecoming. The Black Knights are 0-3 on the season, but all three games have been one-possession games.

The Nittany Lions continue their five-game homestand against San Diego State on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in Beaver Stadium. The contest will air on the Big Ten Network.

Barkley honored: Penn State freshman running back Saquon Barkley is the Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week for the second consecutive week after recording a career-high 195 yards with two touchdowns in the Big Ten opener against Rutgers Saturday. Barkley shares the honor with Indiana safety Jonathan Crawford.

The 195 yards rushing by Barkley marked the most rushing yards in a game by a Nittany Lion since Bill Belton gained 201 yards vs. Illinois in 2013. Additionally, Barkley's 195 rushing yards are the most by a Penn State true freshman since Eric McCoo had 206 against Michigan State in 1998.
