The Penn State York men's basketball team clinched at least a share of the Penn State University Athletic Conference regular-season crown with a convincing 90-66 win over at Penn State Brandywine on Tuesday night.

The local Lions improved to 17-6 overall and 14-1 in conference play. They hold a one-game lead over Penn State Greater Allegheny with one league game remaining. Brandywine fell to 6-18 overall and 5-10 in the PSUAC.

PSY displayed its high-octane offense in the first half, scoring 53 points to build a 23-point advantage. It was a large enough cushion that the local Lions could take their foot off the gas in the second half and still win comfortably.

Red Lion grad Trent Thomas continued his stellar season, leading PSY with 25 points, while Susquehannock grad Richard Grant chipped in with 22 points and finished a rebound shy of a double-double. Matt Achille added 11 points off the bench and Lucas Jewell finished with 10 points. Justin Luton was a monster on the boards, collecting 15 of them for the local Lions to go along with seven points.

PSY will look to take care of the outright conference title on its own on Friday night when it closes out the regular season with a home game against Penn State Mont Alto at 8 p.m.

PSY women lose: The Penn State York women's basketball team lost to Brandywine, 66-50, prior to the men's game.

The local Lions (8-12, 3-10 PSUAC) trailed by three at the break, but had a tough second half, getting outscored by 13, including by nine in the final quarter. Karra Thomason led the team with 16 points and eight boards, while Emily Colon added 14.

Unfortunately, PSY couldn't slow down Brandywine's Brandi James, who finished with a game-high 23 points and 11 rebounds. Brandywine improved to 18-6 and 11-2.

The local Lions will be back in action on Friday night when they host Mont Alto at 6 p.m.
