Penn State York baseball sweeps doubleheader


The Penn State York baseball team earned its first two wins of the year on Tuesday, sweeping its home doubleheader against PSU Scranton.


The local Lions (2-6) completed the doubleheader sweep with an 8-3 win in the second game. PSY rallied from a 3-1 hole after the top of the third, scoring the final seven runs of the game, including four in the bottom of the sixth. Nicholas Schuler drove in two runs for the local Lions, while four other members of the team added RBIs. Kent Walker pitched a complete game for PSY, allowing the three runs, although only one was earned, on five hits and three walks, while striking out six over seven innings.

In the first game of the day, Hunter Thomas spun a shutout, helping the local Lions to the 5-0 win. Thomas allowed four hits over seven innings, also issuing a lone walk, while fanning nine. Schuler also had two RBIs in the opener, while Brady Lefever and Jonny Stratton also drove in runs. Scanton fell to 0-8.
