The Penn State York men's basketball team knocked off Penn State Hazleton, 70-64, on Thursday night at the Thomas M. Caccese Gymnasium.
The local Lions (8-10 overall, 8-3 Penn State University Athletic Conference) had to come from behind to earn the victory, trailing Hazleton (4-15 overall, 3-10 PSUAC), 36-33, after the opening half of play. But, York came out in the final 20 minutes and dominated, outscoring the home side, 37-28, to secure the road win.
Trent Thomas scored a game-high 23 points for the local Lions, while Mike Coleman added 11 and Richard Grant chipped in with 10.
Women's game: The York women's team suffered a 67-57 loss to Hazleton.
After playing a close first quarter, the local Lions (2-11 overall, 1-9 PSUAC) were outscored by 14 points over the next two quarters to fall behind 56-41 after three quarters. They outscored Hazleton (18-2 overall, 11-0 PSUAC) by five in the final quarter, but by that point, the deficit was too large. Charizma Johnson led all York scorers with 18 points, while Katie McNamara added 17 and Karra Thomason finished with 16.
