Former York High football standout Khalid Dorsey has been selected the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Football Rookie of the Week.
Dorsey is a freshman running back at Howard University.
The 5-foot, 11-inch, 175-pounder enjoyed a career day at North Carolina Central University on Saturday, rushing for 83 yards on 15 carries, including a 19-yard touchdown run that gave Howard the lead with 6 minutes, 19 seconds remaining on the clock. That was his first career college TD.
Howard eventually lost the game, 40-35, dropping the Bison to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the MEAC.
For the season, Dorsey has rushed 28 times for 140 yards, averaging 4.9 yards per carry. He is second on the team in rushing yards.
Suburban grad gets PSAC honor: York Suburban High School graduate Maura Brehl, a senior outside hitter at Pitt-Johnstown, has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Women's Volleyball Central Division Athlete of the Week.
The 5-foot, 8-inch Brehl produced a match-high 22 kills and 29 digs in five-set win at Shippensburg on Wednesday. The senior tied for the match high with 18 kills and had 14 digs in sweep over Millersville on Friday. She tied for the match high with 25 kills and had 15 digs in five-set loss to West Chester on Saturday.
For the season, Pitt-Johnstown is 10-10 overall and 5-4 in the PSAC. Brehl leads Pitt-Johnstown in kills (269), kills per set (3.41) and points (301.5).
York women earn soccer win: The York College women's soccer team went on the road and scored two goals in the final three minutes to get a 2-0 Capital Athletic Conference victory over Penn State Harrisburg on Wednesday.
York is now 6-7 overall and 2-1 in the CAC. PS-Harrisburg fell to 6-8-1 and 0-3.
Emily Munkittrick and Caitlin Rankin had the Spartans' goals. Jess Wieber made three saves to get the shutout in goal.
Rankin, who was the Spartan Athlete of the Week last week, now has four goals on the season and a team-leading 15 points.
