COLLEGE: Gifford Pinchot State Park to play host to Mid-Atlantic rowing event Saturday
The Susquehanna Rowing Association will play host to the 10th annual Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference Championship this weekend.
The event will be held Saturday, April 28, starting at 8 a.m. at the Gifford Pinchot State Park Quaker Day Use Area. The park is located in northern York County along state Route 177 between Rossville and Lewisberry.
More than 20 colleges and universities from the area are set to compete.
The event is expected to last until about 4 p.m.
Among the schools expected to attend are: Loyola, Susquehanna, Mary Washington, Lafayette, Stony Brook, Washington College, North Park, Cabrini, Bryn Mawr, St. Mary's, Johnson and Wales, Franklin and Marshall, Stockton, Scranton, Marietta, George Mason, Rhode Island, Bucknell, Army, The College of New Jersey, Maryland and Haverford.
Two Spartans honored by CAC: Two York College athletes have earned weekly honors from the Capital Athletic Conference.
Sophomore midfielder Regan Cook has been named the CAC Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week. Cook helped the Spartans, ranked No. 5 in NCAA III, to three wins on the week, which extended the team's win streak to eight. That included a win over then-No. 2 Gettysburg.
For the week, Cook notched 14 points on 10 goals and four assists. For the season, Cook has 41 points on 31 goals and 10 assists.
Senior second baseman Zach Hossler has been named the CAC Baseball Offensive Player of the Week. Hossler led York to a pair of CAC wins.
Hossler hit .714 for the week with a .786 slugging percentage and a .733 on-base percentage. He is hitting .361 for the year with 32 runs scored, five doubles, two home runs and 39 RBIs. He owns a .444 slugging percentage and a .412 on-base percentage.
Hossler was also named the Spartan Athlete of the Week.
York splits softball doubleheader: The York College softball team split a doubleheader with Albright College on Monday evening on the road in nonconference play.
Ginger Lewis threw seven shutout innings in the first game, and Ashley Meekins drove in four runs, including a two-run dinger, to help the Spartans win 5-0, before falling 3-2 in the nightcap.
York is now 24-13-1, while Albright is 13-16.
Lewis struck out nine in her win to improve to 11-6 this season. In the second game, Samantha Kiser threw 5 2/3 innings of shutout relief.
Penn State York falls in baseball: The Penn State York baseball team dropped a 13-6 decision at Penn State Hazleton on Monday.
The Yorkers fell to 5-14 on the season. Hazleton is 7-15.
Sean Meekins (two hits, RBI), Ryan Shindler (two hits, two runs), Levi Stein (two hits) and Logan Miller (double, two runs, RBI) paced the PSY attack.
