The middle of the Penn State York order produced seven hits, seven RBIs and five runs scored to power the local Lions to their first win of the season on Thursday, 12-8, over visiting Penn State Schuylkill.

York Suburban High School graduate Brenden Delridge (three hits, RBI, two runs), Sean Meekins (two hits, two RBIs, two runs) and Central York grad Walker Montieth (two hits, homer, four RBIs, run) thrived in the No. 3 through No. 5 spots in the order, respectively.

It was the Penn State University Athletic Conference opener for PSY. The local Lions, who had not played in more than a month because of bad weather, improved to 1-4. Schuylkill fell to 8-4 overall, 0-3 in the PSUAC.

Suburban grad Levi Stein got the win, pitching six innings and allowing three earned runs, with seven strikeouts and two walks. Delridge got the save with two innings of two-hit shutout relief.

The Penn State York softball team had a little more trouble in its season-opening doubleheader at Schuylkill, losing 14-0 and 17-2.

York settles for wild 18-18 tie with No. 10 team: The York College baseball team nearly upset the No. 10 team in all of NCAA Division III on Thursday, but had to settle for a wild 18-18 tie at Randolph-Macon.

The Spartans led 18-14 going into the bottom of the ninth, but the Yellow Jackets plated four runs to tie it up. Darkness ended the game after nine innings.

York is now 8-6-1. R-M fell to 14-3-1.

Leadoff man Grant Oberholtzer led the way for York with five hits, including a triple and a homer, to go with five runs scored and three RBIs. York also got big games from Seth Brosius (two hits, three RBIs, three runs), Christian Bilan (two doubles, single, four RBIs, two runs), Kennard-Dale grad Collin Crowell (three RBIs) and Zach Hossler (two RBIs).
