Dover High School graduate Nicole Smith recently earned honorable mention All-America honors in two different events at the NCAA Division II Swimming Championships at the Greensboro (North Carolina) Aquatic Center.
Smith is a sophomore for Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Friday, Smith broke her own school record in the consolation finals of the 500-yard freestyle, finishing 11th overall with a time of 4 minutes, 56.19 seconds.
That was actually the second time Friday that she broke her own record, racing to a time of 4:56.77 and cutting her previous mark by 1.31 seconds in the preliminary session. Smith was 12th in the prelims to advance to Friday's B final.
She also finished 13th in the 200 free on Thursday in 1:50.08. She posted her fastest time of the year in the Thursday prelims, finishing in 1:49.74 to finish 12th out of 49 swimmers in the first session.
Swimmers who finish in ninth through 16th place in an event are considered honorable mention All-Americans.
Smith was 36th in the 100 free on Saturday in :51.54. She also competed in the 50 free on Wednesday, finishing in :24.44 in the preliminaries.
