Spring Grove grad Eli Brooks makes first college start for Michigan
Spring Grove graduate Eli Brooks made his first career Division I college start for Michigan on Tuesday, Nov. 21.
Facing Chaminade in the Maui Jim Maui Invitational, Brooks was inserted into the starting lineup at point guard for the Wolverines. Michigan won the game, 102-64, improving to 4-1 on the year.
Brooks didn't shoot the ball well, going just 1 of 5 from the floor, but he did knock down a 3-pointer and add a pair of free throws to finish the night with a new career-high five points. Brooks also added two rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal to his stat line.
He also set a career-high in minutes played, seeing the court for 21 minutes. It's the third game this year that Brooks has played double-digit minutes for the Wolverines.
For the season, Brooks is averaging 11.6 minutes per game and just 2.2 points per game as he continues to adjust to the Division I level.
Brooks is Spring Grove's all-time leader in scoring with 2,426 points and is second in York County history in scoring.
Michigan will face Virginia Commonwealth University on Wednesday in the fifth-place game. Tip-off for that game is at 5 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN 2.
